I’m gonna throw it out there - I HATE POTTY TRAINING or potty learning or whatever you want to call it. It’s not fun, it’s surely not easy, and even when your “done” there are still the occasional accidents, or they don’t tell you they have to go until “it’s an emergency!” and you are on the highway with 10 miles until the next rest stop.
There is no perfect method either. I’ve ready the books, we have the board books and video’s, and of course I’ve looked online at blogs and boards. Every child is different and has a different potty story (and Don’t get me started on the horror stories either! YIKES)
Both of my children are very different too. Easy going EJ was potty trained by 2 and by 2.6 successfully stopped wearing a diaper at night. JR is totally different. He is 3 and still wearing diapers full time with no end in sight.. At around 2 he wanted to be naked all the time and would pee on the potty. He would even tell me when we were out that he wanted to go to the bathroom. I was excited and thought we would be done with diapers any day! I was wrong .. SO very wrong.. After a couple months he started going Pee and Poop everywhere but the potty! He still wanted to be naked but he didn’t want to use the potty. So I didn’t get upset I just put the diaper back on and snapped him in a onesie so he couldn’t to pee or poop on the floor (which happened more than I’d like to admit). After that I just let it drop completely thinking it was a one set back two steps forward scenario.
Now he is 3 and he has absolutely no interest in potty training. He will pee on the potty once and a while but most times he hates even having his diaper off! He loves his diaper. When we go to the store he will look with me in the diaper isle for the “ball diapers” and “ball wipes”; i.e Target diapers, and Huggies wipes. He is very specific about this to the point of pitching a fit and making it almost impossible for me to get another diaper on him! I ask once and a while I’ll ask, ” do you want to try to use the potty ” and he says ” no I HATE the potty” Awesome!
So now what? I guess I am going to just let it ride.
Changing diapers really isn’t that big of a deal. The only concern is he is in a size 6 which I think is the biggest size for target diapers. One of these days he’s going to just start using the potty all on his own… right?

Three years and three months was the magic number for my oldest two kids. Both decided on their own at that age that they were ready. My youngest is currently 2.5 and I’m hoping to have him trained by the end of the summer. We shall see!
I am hoping for September because the preschool I want to send him to requires the kids to be potty trained.. Fingers crossed. =) Good luck to you too with your youngest.
